Introducing: The Stoops Dinner Quiz
Long have we wanted to host a pub quiz at The Blue Stoops…The obstacle has been the apparent difficulty in finding a quiz master. Well, we needn't have worried. No sooner had we asked you, loyal readers, in an email a few weeks back, then we had no less than 15 applications from a range of highly talented and experienced Quizzers. It's been very difficult making a decision about who should do the first quiz, but in the end we landed on Bill Knott, whose nickname, Knottopedia, says it all (bio below).
And we've always known that we wanted to do it with our local charity, Rugby Portobello Trust, as the beneficiary (see below for more info).
Tickets are £50 (+ service charge) which includes a 3-course light meal and a £10 donation to RPT.
The prize is a £50 bar tab right here at The Blue Stoops.
Bill Knott
Bill Knott started his career as a chef before co-founding the food and drink magazine Eat Soup in 1996. He has since written for a host of magazines and newspapers worldwide, including a stint as restaurant critic of the Daily Telegraph and more than a decade as The Gannet in the Financial Times, and has made many appearances on TV and radio, including Great British Menu, the Today programme, and Woman’s Hour. He is currently the drinks columnist for The Oldie and an ambassador for Action Against Hunger.
Rugby Portobello Trust
Talent is evenly distributed; opportunity is not. The Rugby Portobello Trust (RPT) bridges this gap in North Kensington, one of the UK's most deprived areas and one which is still recovering from the devastating impact of the Grenfell tragedy. RPT operates a comprehensive ecosystem of mental health support, educational hubs, and employment mentoring to ensure the next generation is healthy, engaged, and employable. With a 140-year track record, RPT isn't just testing a concept; it is scaling a proven model of community resilience. Click here if you would like to learn more about this critical part of our local community which is now entirely donor-funded and needs to raise £1.5m each year to cover the cost of its activities.
Quiz #2 – Save The Date
The quiz will recommence after a break for August on 7th September with host Hugh Warrender, local man-about-town who will be known to many of you. More info to follow nearer the time but do save the date.
